On 16th April 1997, the STAEDTLER foundation was officially recognised and certified by the regional government of central Franconia. 
It is a public foundation under civil law and holds all shares of the STAEDTLER group. 

Main purpose of the foundation is the promotion of scientific research at German polytechnics and universities, in particular at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. 
It is recognised as being a non-profit organisation.

Chairman of the foundations executive board is Mr. Dieter Schoch.

For the eleventh time already, the foundations profits have been used to finance awards for outstanding theses by PhD students at the FAU as well as for funding other research projects.
The awards are each to the value of Euro 3.500,-.

Furthermore cultural projects are being promoted continuously, e.g. the reconstruction of the Frauenkirche Church in Dresden or projects of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg.
