With its STAEDTLER mechanical pencil lead tube, the company has just won the prestigious WorldStar Award 2006 presented by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO).

The panel of judges was impressed by the tube’s innovative push-button mechanism for single-handed use and refilling of individual leads. The funnel-shaped tip for easy refilling has the advantages that the pencils leads don’t need to be touched and cannot be dropped or broken; and a convenient lead content window shows the amount of lead remaining in the tube.

The international WorldStar Packaging Award demonstrates the continual advancement of the state of our packaging art and sets a standard for international packaging excellence from which others may learn. WorldStar awards are presented only to those packages which have already won previous recognition in national competitions, and are then compared by an expert panel of judges to similar packages from around the world.

Awards are based on the judges' consensus that a package is superior in its own right and/or better in its class in execution or innovation by comparison. STAEDTLER received the national competition award, the Deutscher Verpackungspreis, 2006 in Germany.

WorldStar 2006 attracted 265 entries from 35 countries around the world. Out of this 130 were selected as WorldStar winners 2006 by the jury in their meeting in Poznan, Poland. The jury consisted of 23 representatives from the World Packaging Organisation and one representative from the International Packaging Press Organisation (IPPO).
